International Visiting Artist 2005
Yuji Hiratsuka

Japanese printmaker Yuji Hiratsuka, Associate Professor of Art at Oregon State University in the United States, was Seacourt's International Visiting Artist in 2005.

Yuji received a BS degree in Art Education from Tokyo Gakugei University in Japan in 1978. He received an MA in printmaking from New Mexico State University in 1987 and an MFA in printmaking from Indiana University in 1990.

Since his education, he has taught printmaking at universities in Indiana, Colorado and Oregon. He has actively exhibited her work in numerous international shows and belongs to such prestigious collections as the British Museum, Tokyo Central Museum, the Cincinnati Art Museum and the New York Public Library, among many others.

Yuji Hiratsuka works primarily in four-colour intaglio processes, and his prints are often enhanced by relief printing. His images are whimsical and satirical, and are heavily influenced by traditional Japanese imagery.
