Screenprint with water based inks
48 x 38cms
The ’Combat Kitchen Series’ involves generating new life out of discarded junk and nostalgia.
Although I suffered headaches, nose bleeds, mood swings, exhaustion, loss of taste and smell and constantly smelled like an old petrol can, I was initially a reluctant convert to water based screenprinting inks. I hated the muddy colours, poor opacity, high water content and past-like texture which made editioning a nightmare. In 1994 I won a travel scholarship to the USA where I discovered T W Graphics. T W inks were designed for commercially screenprinting e g: the interiors of Boeing aircraft, but were simultaneously being used by artists and printers alike in all of the main studios throughout the USA. The colours are pure, light fast pigments which may be added to a number of bases according to desired print finish, opacity etc. Needless to say that my health has improved dramatically and my mood swings are now down to the fact that I am an artist, as opposed to solvent abuse.
