When I looked up the meaning of this word in the thesaurus it explained it as : "a cause which relieves pain, a medicine that soothes pain by lessening the sensitivity of the brain or nervous system. Among those classed as simple anodynes were leaves of violet, elderberry and onion". Hence my interest in using images of some of these plants in my print.
