Jean Duncan is an established artist who has exhibited widely internationally. She is one of the co-founders of Seacourt Print Workshop, Circa Magazine and Octagon Gallery. In 1994, she was elected to the Royal Ulster Academy and in 1987 to the Ulster Watercolour Society. Her travels are reflected in a series of exhibitions exploring the symbols and atmosphere of Spain, France, Morocco and Japan. She has also worked collaboratively with the composers Piers Hellawell and Deirdre McKay to create a single aural and visual experience. This has been reflected in live performances accompanied by projected images, and in the making of two videos - "Still Dancers" with Hellawell and "The Fly" with McKay.

"My current work is part of a long-running exploration into the power and vitality of symbols and their use in guiding perceptions. This has extended in the last few years to working with composers with the aim of creating a single aural and visual experience which transcends the ordinary. Whether the subject is ephemeral or specific, I aspire to find its visual essence."
