International Visiting Artist 2009

Seacourt Print Workshop has welcomed a New Zealand artist to its Bangor facility thanks to funding secured from North Down Borough Council Arts Committee. Mark Graver, from Kerikeri NZ, runs a non-toxic print studio using materials and techniques which have a low impact on the environment and on artists’ health. SPW has been researching safer methods of fine art printmaking for several years and Mark’s workshop supported its work in this area. Members were introduced to etching aluminium in a copper sulphate and salt solution that is fast, safe and can create a huge range of print finishes.

Robert Peters, SPW’s Director, said “ I would like to thank the Arts Committee for enabling SPW to access specialist knowledge in this innovative technique. Our members benefit greatly from seeing how artists from other countries create and promote their artwork. Mark has kindly offered to host an exhibition of prints created using this method at his gallery in New Zealand next year. This opens new possibilities for our members to exhibit internationally and promotes North Down on the world stage. It also enables SPW to promote responsible practices in the arts and raise its profile as the foremost print research facility in Ireland.
