New Artist in Residence at SPW

Altea Grau, from Valencia, has arrived in Bangor to be artist in residence at Seacourt Print Workshop, North Down’s internationally renowned visual arts resource. The residency has been made possible through a multi-annual grant from North Down Borough Council and benefits both artists and the wider public. Whilst here Altea will be sharing her knowledge of printmaking techniques with SPW artists and also sharing skills within the community through North Down Community Network’s Wise the BAP group.

SPW Director Robert Peters said, “It is essential for our artists to experience a wide range of approaches to printmaking. This intensive three month residency gives SPW members a wonderful opportunity to engage with artists from different countries and learn how they approach their art practice. It is also an opportunity to network and explore collaborations. Part of the programme includes the visiting artist working with members of the community to create an artwork during their stay. I would like to thank NDBC for their continued support of this much needed programme.” Over the past ten year artist from as far afield as China, Japan, Canada, Germany, Romania, Scotland, Austria, New Zealand and the USA have visited Bangor and carried back positive reports about the area and this has put North Down on the map within the international printmaking community and led to independent visits by artists from Arizona, San Francisco and Los Angeles. These international links have also led to exhibition opportunities for SPW printmakers and this year the group will be sending exhibitions to Phoenix, Arizona, Brussels and Michigan. Altea will be exhibiting some of the prints she creates at SPW in an exhibition at Ards Arts Centre in November.
