Seacourt Print Workshop is drawing a wealth of national and international talent to Bangor thanks to funding secured from North Down Borough Council and the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. The funding from both organisations will support artist in residence programmes at Seacourt’s Balloo facility. North Down’s Arts Committee have awarded Seacourt a three year package of funding which will allow the group to host a one month International Visiting Artist Programme and a three month Artist in Residence Programme. Robert Peters, SPW’s Director, said “Support from North Down Borough Council is very important to local arts groups and I would like to thank the Arts Committee for enabling SPW to sustain these exciting programmes. Our members benefit greatly from seeing how artists from other countries create and promote their artwork. It also gives us an opportunity to engage with the wider public by having our artist in residence work with a community group during their stay.”
Austin Lennon, Chair of the Arts and Culture Committee said, “At North Down Borough Council we seek to support the arts at all levels. Seacourt is one of a number of long standing arts organisations in the Borough that have provided quality cultural experiences for residents over the years. I am very happy that North Down Borough Council has been able to support programmes that promote international cultural exchange and community outreach.” Lottery funding through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland has provided a twelve month artist in residence programme for Penny Brewill to create a body of new work. The new prints will be inspired by research she carried out over the past twelve months when she was employed by Seacourt as their Research Technician. Robert Peters said, “Penny carried out some essential work on safer print processes last year and introduced several new techniques to our workshop. We are very glad that her knowledge will be available to our members and the general public who attend our education programmes over the next year.”
