Safer printmaking goes digital

Seacourt Print Workshop has placed itself at the forefront of research into safer printmaking with the help of French company Gravograph. The organization has just taken delivery of a computer controlled engraver which will allow for the creation of high definition intaglio prints. SPW is the first artist resource in Ireland to utilize this cutting edge technology and adds to its international reputation as one of the most innovative print workshops in the field.

SPW’s Director Robert Peters said, “We are have been engaged in a research programme on ‘greener’ approaches for several years now and this partnership with Gravograph will enable us to explore a whole new range of technologies that mean less harm to both the artist and the environment. We hope that after a period of experimentation we will be able to offer the preparation of high definition plates as an additional service to artists from across the UK and Ireland. We are extremely grateful to North Down Borough Council for funding through the Arts Capital Projects Grant Scheme and Dunlop Homes for their support in helping us realize our ambitions in this initiative.”

Michel Tissut of Gravograph said, “For more than 65 years, Gravograph has pioneered high-quality, durable engraving and marking machines that help our customers achieve the success they expect and deserve. We are very happy to support Seacourt Print Workshop in its research into safer printmaking processes. We are always looking for new and creative applications for our state of the art engraving technology.”
