Armagh Planetarium has
collaborated with artists from Seacourt Print Workshop to create a
portfolio of exclusive, original-prints inspired by the cosmos
entitled Star Prints. Some of the most
highly regarded printmakers in Northern Ireland visited the award
winning Armagh Planetarium facility and were treated to a virtual
tour of the Universe by its Director, Dr. Tom Mason MBE, a long time
advocate of meaningful exchange between the arts and sciences.
The artists have responded to their experience in a myriad of
styles, using a broad range of printmaking techniques including
etching, relief, digital and screen printing. The images range from
abstract forms, through dramatic space-scapes to earth-bound wonder.
Robert Peters, Director of Seacourt Print Workshop said,”We are
always looking for new audiences to engage with and new ways of
promoting the art of printmaking. The opportunity to work with Dr.
Mason and his team at this world class visitor attraction will allow
us to fulfil both these aims. We are delighted to be involved in
this innovative project.” Dr. Mason said, “My experience of working
with artists over many years has revealed that scientific themes can
be brought to life and given new meaning through the language of the
visual arts. Seacourt Print Workshop is a wonderful artists’
resource and the prints created should prove popular with anyone
interested in the story of our universe."
Each artist has produced an edition of thirty prints. The prints
can be bought online as a portfolio of ten images selected by Dr.
Mason or individually through the Planetarium’s shop.
Individual prints are priced at £60.00 each unframed, or specially designed portfolios of the ten print set, selected by Dr. Mason, are available at £425.00 and can only be bought online.
