Symposium Matrix
The Kunstlerhaus, Vienna May 2010
The exhibition multiple matters - Graphic Concepts is part of the comprehensive programme that was initiated in cooperation with the Krakow triennial graphics exhibition and the Horst-Janssen-Museum Oldenburg in 2006. This International Print Network initiative also generated the exhibition Print which took place in Künstlerhaus Vienna in 2007. The artists participating in the exhibition multiple matters- Graphical Concepts were selected in the competition of the international Krakow triennial graphics exhibition 2009.
A symposium linked to this exhibition took place on the 28th and 29th of May 2010. The theme for the event were summarised as an exploration of the specific "printmaking / graphic concepts“ in today's visual arts. How are the interactions between print media and artistic concepts, between process and product, developing? What is the significance of these developments for the perception of graphic art today?
Organised and hosted by Georg Lebzelter, the event drew together a range of speakers from academic and practise based backgrounds. The talks from the workshop have been included in a publication imprint 2010
im:print is an open forum for the discussion of theoretical, conceptual and technical questions in the field of printmaking and art produced with the intention to be published, as well as for the critical discourse of current developments. im:print offers a platform for documentation and mediation of the changes in meaning and definitions of and within the printmaking field prompted by paradigms shifts of the artistic praxis. The current expansion of printmaking into networks as well as digital production and publication is considered a logical delimitation. Contributions of international authors undergo a peer review process to ensure highest academic standards and topicality in the areas printmaking, book arts and published art.
